Healthier Children with Chiropractic
"Chiropractic for my child? Why? They don't have back pain." Many parents appreciate the importance of regular checkups for their children's teeth, vision, and hearing, but draw a blank when it comes to a spinal checkup. the fact of the matter is that a spinal exam could be the most important checkup of that child's life. Proper motion and alignment of the spine is now identified by science as the most important nutrient in development of a young person's nerve system. In fact, research is now showing that people who do not properly stimulate their brain with joint movement have learning, memory, emotional, behavioral, and overall health deficits.
This is especially true for children because spinal joint receptor stimulation plays an integral role in the development of the child's brain and nervous system. The effects of the decreased stimulation of the brain in childhood have been linked to the central motor impairments, developmental impairments, learning disabilities, concentration problems like ADHD, behavioral problems such as violence and increased illnesses such as ear, nose, and throat infections, sleeping difficulties, and colic (1-2). The spine protects billions of nerve fibers that send and transmit vital nutrients to the brain to balance every system in the body. Your life is coordinated by your nerve system.

Spinal Blockages

If there is blockage in areas of the spine then toxic stress messages are sent to the brain and stress hormones are released throughout the entire body. This hormone release creates dis-ease in the body. Dis-ease is a state if disharmony in the body which can lead to lowered resistance to organ malfunction, illness and sickness. Moreover, the devastation occurring with these blockages can be going on without any pain! Blockage of nerves of the spinal column is caused by misalignments in the spinal vertebrae called subluxations.

The First Subluxation

How does your child lose its natural spinal alignment and motion and develop vertebral subluxations? There are many causes to subluxation, some of which may occur as early as labor. The trauma of birth creates a tremendous amount of strain on an infant's spine especially if the child was breech presentation or if the birth was difficult. Health problems in childhood or even adulthood have been traced back to the spinal damage at birth.

The Early Years
Childhood through toddler years is filled with physical times. Learning to walk, running, jumping, falling and accidents are all a normal part of normal childhood. While most falls are minor, at times they can create spinal and nerve damaging subluxations with serious long-term consequences. For that reason all children should have regular spinal checkups by a licensed chiropractor.
Conclusion
More and more families are finding that periodic chiropractic spinal checkups for their children make a big difference in their health. Include chiropractic checkups as part of your family's healthcare routine.
